Having a look at Windows 7 and coming from using Ubuntu solidly for the last 4 years I find it just as irritating as Vista – but I need to give it a bit more time to form an unbiased opinion.
From a personal perspective there are some things I prefer for my own usability:
From a personal perspective there are some things I prefer for my own usability:
- Quick Launch Toolbar – To enable it in Windows 7 see this article.
Right-click > Toolbars > New Toolbar. In the Folder space enter %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\QuickLaunch - Windows Explorer Menu Bar Enable the File, Edit, View menubar in Windows Explorer – Click on Organise > Layout > Menubar
- File Extensions Hidden Files and File Extensions – as usual Tools> Folder Options > View
- Traditional Style Task Bar Change is difficult so I right-clicked and choose Properties and set “Use small icons”
- Auto-Expand the Folder List in Explorer choose Organize > Folder Options In the General tab choose “Automatically expand to current folder”, while you’re in there you may want to tick “Show all folders”.
These are just my own preferences for future reference.
